This West African country is a centre of music and home to the world-famous ‘Les Ballets Africains’, which has featured some of the best drummers in Africa over the last three quarters of a century. Central to Guinean music is the djembe, which can be made from cow or goat skin.
Our Guinean íon is a tribute to the latter and produces a rounder sound than a bleached goatskin íon (like the Cuban). As it is generally thicker than bleached goatskin, it can also be played much more powerfully and is recommended both for its unique frequency response and its robustness.
