Anchored in the sounds of Turkish percussion and inspired by the darbuka, this íon has a skin made of synthetic material with a green surface. This material is often used in professional instruments nowadays, as it is not affected by climatic conditions such as humidity, which could lead to a loss of tension. This type of skin is very light by nature and must be protected from sharp objects and accidental impacts.
However, the thinness of Turkish íon is also its greatest advantage, as it offers exceptional responsiveness and sound projection, with full and powerful mid-tones as well as strong, bright highs. For this reason, it lends itself particularly well to a playing technique known as ‘Turkish technique’, although it can be played in many different ways.
